It was a new one from whirlpool.

Its in the gearcase/transmission. The way these work is its agitating (motor spinning one direction)

The timer stops the motor. It then reverses the motor. The viscosity of the oil in the gearcase keeps the neutral drain part in its present position.

The water is pumped out. Then the timer pauses, then restarts and the ND part slides over. That's the clunk you hear before the spin. Then the basket spins.

Somehow your gearcase is coming out of spin and going back to neutral drain mode. The second time you activate the lid switch it spins. Very unusual.

Was this a new gearcase or a rebuilt one?

Hi,
it's in a heated room.
What are the odds i got a bad used timer and that doesn't spin properly either?

How warm is the room the washer is in? The room should be 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The oil in the gearcase is straight 50 weight. The oil needs to be around 70 for the washer to go from neutral drain to spin.

Also try doing more warm loads during cold weather and make sure to set agitation for 6 minutes or more. Gives the oil a little time to warm up.

H,
Recently had the washer strip out the spin gear in the transmission, Replaced the transmission and put on a new clutch.
It works except for the spins AFTER the initial drain and spin. It dosen't spin unless you raise the top and close it again,( its making noise as if its doing something) I've replaced the timer with a refurbished one and it still does the same thing.
Any suggestions?
