	[COLOR="Blue"] What is the function of the freezer door heater?[/COLOR] If you mean the one that is part of the ice chute dispenser it gets rid of condensation which could freeze the chute/trap door closed. [COLOR="Blue"] Is it meant to come on during defrost cycles?[/COLOR] Looking at the wiring diagram it looks like it is on all the time.

	Thank you for your reply. Indeed I did find the airflow to be blocked by dust, etc. I will vacuum well and test the results. I'm still confused by the warm door sides. What is the function of the freezer door heater? Is it meant to come on during defrost cycles? Could it be continuously on if one of the controlling components is malfunctioning? Check that the rear cover louvers and the front kick plate louvers are clean. Check/clean the condenser coils under the unit. Check that the unit is not pushed tight against the rear wall. Check that the condenser fan is running. Check/clean the condenser fan blade. If all OK Check that the evaporator/freezer fan is running OK. If OK Remove the cover in the freezer so you can inspect the evaporator coils. They should have a fairly even coating of frost on them. If there is frost only in one area (usually where the freon enters the coils) then it is probably a sealed system [problem. You must be sure that the compressor has run for about an hour before doing this check. If you do it shortly after or during a defrost cycle you can end up with the wrong diagnosis.

	This refrigerator/freezer (side by side) never seems to have worked right. The unit seems to be always running and the door sides are always warm to the touch. Maybe the thing is stuck in defrost mode and the compressor is always running to compensate? I checked the ladder schematic which shows a "heater, freezer door" controlled only by a "safety switch". The wiring diagram shows the "door heater" wired to some components that are not well labeled. I suspect that there is a thermostat and a timer that controls these cycles but something isn't right and I'd appreciate some help on how to run it down. Also, the ice maker never worked either- maybe the problems are related? Thanks!
