I found a local guy who let me borrow a used motor to test. Problem solved.

I removed the motor and checked the coupling. There are no breaks or stipping, so I guess that's one less possibility. What could the problem be and how sould I proceed to continue troubleshooting this problem? Any help is appreciated.

I have a Whirlppol washer (model # LSQ9510LQ0) that will not spin. I have read some of the other posts with similar prolems, but the difference is that my agitator works fine and the machine drains fine too. I can hear the machine straining when it should spin, but it doesn't. If I reach inside (pressing the lid switch) and give the drum a turn (like a kick start) it will start to spin. I can't figure out if it is the coupling, clutch or something else.
