Rich,
Without a model number it will be rough, but, Check and make sure the magnet is still mounted to the lid. you'll need to remove the top of the washer so you can access the switch wiring, usually they are orange and white, and the connector is located in the left rear corner of the cabinet.
Another check, while you're in the area, would be the water level switch and tube, the switch has to reset to the "empty" setting, or the washer won't spin, you can disconnect the hose, and see if the washer spins, if so, blow in the tube and clear any build up or debris in the hose.

Thanks,

My top load GE washer model whse5240d1ww runs fine including draining but will not spin to get the water off the clothes. It has a magnetic saftey switch on the lid. I am not sure how to bypass to check the switch to see if thats the problem.

Thanks Rich
