Thanks Appliance Junk;;;

That looks like just a little more than I want to tackle. Not real sure I want to disassemble, the whole thing just for that.

Thanks again

Sounds like the rear tub bearing and support are bad, common problem with the neptunes.

Here are some repair photo from one such job.

My neighbor gave me his Maytag Neptune washer. He said it was making loud noises when in final spin, everything else was ok. I brought it home and checked it out and he was right it was very unbalanced. I checked out several sites on the internet an it appeared that the struts were shot. I ordered new ones + top springs. Installed new parts and tested machine. The new struts helped but didn't cure the problem. What I found after testing w/new parts installed was;; the inner tub appeared to have a lot of what I call "end play" on the center shaft, e.g. the inner tub could be moved forward and backward, and when it went back it banged or knocked as in a rod knocking in your old ford. I also looked at the outer ring of the inner tub as I rotated the tub by hand, it appears as though the tub is off center.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is wrong, that's the best I can come up with for what it is doing. This thing really jumps around in the final spin, so much so that out of balance switch, cuts it off and lets it spin down before retrying to spin. It will finally do a full spin, but only after several start/stop cycles.
