The first thing I would do is lubricate the power nuts and the power screws (#12 & #2 on the diagram). The part number for the grease is AP3134980

The motor troubleshooting is described in the tech sheets.

- The part number for the motor is AP3081024

I have a Kenmore Trash Compactor that has a problem with the motor overheating. The odor is "ozone" like, and there is some smoke visible. The motor will stop mid-stroke, and will not continue until cooling down for several minutes.

The unit will sometimes complete a full cycle, but begins to vibrate and shake, on the up stroke, which makes the drawer pop open. I think it may be time for some lubrication. I'm wondering, however, since the motor has obviously overheated several times, if it should be replaced. Also, what other issues should I check? The unit is made by Whirlpool, and I've ordered a service manual for it.
