It seems the new motherboard has fixed the problem.

I guess it all depends how much you know about refridgeration. It would require you to be able to hard solder, vacum down the system, add oil and refrigerant to the proper level using a gage set. You would also have to add servicing valves as these are not included on modern home refridgeration units.

Sounds like the same problem I have with a 2001 Kitchenaid fridge that was diagnosed today by a technician as 'I need a new compressor.' Is a compressor something that one could install by oneself if one is mechanically and electrically inclined?
