Magician59,
I removed two small screws on the back of panel and tried to lift it from the front with a srewdiver and nothing happened.

Depending on your model, access to the console will be by loosening two screws (either at the front of the console, or the rear). They'll be either exposed, or covered up by removable end caps. Or the console is secured by spring clips at the front corners, which can be released by sliding a putty knife under each corner and depressing the clips.

The console will then slide about a half-inch forward, and then pivot back on hinges.
