The first spin cycle probably does not work all that well either but you don't notice that since the machine then goes on to the rinse cycle.

This sounds like a clutch problem, and it is a repair an inexperienced person can do, just take your time and it helps to have a helper.

Take a look at the STicky by Richappy on Direct Drive brakes for text info, and then go to the video section found at the top of this page and you will find a video on how to replace the clutch lining.

With a regular load the washer runs through the first spin cycle and drains the tub but the second spin cycle does not run. The clothes remain very wet.
If there is no load of clothes or a VERY LIGHT load, the second spin cycle works OK.
What component could be bad? Could an un-experienced user make the repair?
Thank you for any advise you may give me.
