If you are sure the brakes are releasing, and they probably are, change out the clutch and that should fix things. Check the brakes using the Sticky by Richappy at the top of this page.

Bought a used Crosley CAWB427JQ1 for my daughter. Machine works normal except the spin cycle. If you give it a little bit of help, it will start to spin, but is very weak, and will not spin enough to pull the water out of the load. Broke down the machine. Nothing broken or worn bad enough to need replacing. Lubrication was good, but lubed it anyway. This is a direct drive washer. I'm suspecting the brakes. Are they used to lock the washer drum and rotate for the spin cycle? Is there anyway to know how much pad is supposed to be on them?
