I have a kenmore 80 series that will not agitate. When you first start the cycle it will fill properly but will not agitate. When it is supposed to agitate you can hear a very slight humming noise and then after a few minutes a strong electrical smell comes from below the machine. Eventually the motor overheats and the machine will do nothing. After it cools down you can advance the timer and spin out the water. Is this a motor or timer problem? If its a motor problem can just the swith be replaced on the motor? Also the drive coupler is in good condition and the transmission spins freely in both directions.
