I think I got it fixed. I replaced the timer and so far so good. Thanks for all of your replies.

Your three choices are the motor, motor switch and the timer. Given the it works in the gentle cycle some of the time I am leaning towards the timer. You can disconnect the wiring and clean the contacts and if that does not fix things try a new timer.

If you buy from this site and the part does not fix the problem you can return it, see the returns policy for details and conditions.

This is a top load washer. All cycles work except for the Gentle Knit cycle. In the Gentle Knit cycle, it will fill with water, sometimes it only agitates briefly, sometimes it will spin and sometimes it will not, and sometimes it will drain and sometime it will not. I have replaced the lid switch and bypassed the lid switch. Looked at the clutch and it seems fine. I am thinking the problem is either the dial timer or the motor since it is a 2 speed motor. How would I check these two items? Also if it is not these 2 items, what do you think it is?
