This sounds like a transmission failure, and given the cost of the repair I think the better option is to replace the machine.

so i here i have a weird problem but coming from a maytag thats not uncommon. the washer will go through all the cycles but on the spin it would start spinning slow for about 20 seconds then suddenly start agitating violently then stop. but now when it goes to spin the agitator just starts going fast. when i try turning the drum by hand, it wont move.
anyone have any ideas?
