So, following some of the other threads...
I tried taking the belt off. The belt was hot in one spot only, and after removal the metal pulley directly under the motor(?? transmission pulley) is spinning away and of course my burning smell is gone....

Anyone....?
Thanks for the help!

My apologies for something I'm sure has been answered somewhere... I can't seem to find it in "search"..

Top load Frigidaire (FWS235RFS) washer wont spin on spin cycle. Burning smell. Inspection showed belt was cut but not severed completely. Replaced belt with no problems. Washer runs through filling and agitation cycles but is not spinning clothes to dry. Seems to be draining fine, and is making normal noise.... but on Spin cycle there is no spin and a burning smell again.

side note: a month or so ago we did hear a clanging/thumping sound but was intermittent and could not get a fix on what it was.

Thanks in advance for any help!
Determined to fix!
