Take off the cover and check out the pump to make sure nothing is caught in it. Then operate it with the cover off and you should be able to detect the location of the noise.

Maytag Performa Washer Will Not Agitate And Makes Loud Growling/knmocking Noise When Its Supposed To Agitate.transmission? Maybe Something Simpler Or At Least Cheaper?
