After additional searching in this forum, I think I was looking at the wrong diagram. It would seem the part that needs to be replaced is the infinite switch AP4088188.

When turning on the front right (larger) solid burner element TO ANY TEMPERATURE SETTING, the burner comes on very high and I notice an odor. The right back (smaller) solid burner element appears to work correctly except sometimes the burner light comes on and may go off - it's "touchy". Since I have two solid burner cartridges and both are exhibiting this problem, I assume it's not the cartridge but something behind the control knob, but what part am I looking for? Based on the Internal Controls diagram, I suspect it could be either AP4291987 or AP4291988.
