Thanks,
As long as I had it apart, I put in a new element also. Good info for future reference, Thanks again.

While your there also check for the element to be shorted to ground which they always do which would also blow the limit just take your mutimeter set to ohms and go from each elemnt terminal to the outside casing on heat element housing if you get a reading the wires on the element is touching They dont always burn in two but instead weld themselves to the tin and causing a short circuit.

Thanks,
I got the parts today and the cutoff and t-stat come together. I took the lint chute off and found it half plugged up down by the blower. I hope that is all that it is.

Hi Jon,

I would recommend to replace the thermal cut-off together with the high-limit thermostat and make sure there is no restrictions in the vent lines.

Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool dryer Model LER7646DQ1

A short time ago, I replaced the thermal fuse for a no heat problem. It was working good until today. I checked and found the thermal cutout bad this time. The red (with white) wire also got hot near the cutout. Is it possible I have a problem with the heating element? Or should I just replace the cutout and the t-stat? Thanks for any help.
