Here are your parts
Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL KECC502BBL0 | AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is a wiring diagram
http://www.servicematters.com/docs/wiring/Wiring%20Sheet%20-%203188259.pdf

And a manual which should be close to your unit
https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/73a244d6c58b438085256a8c005b310a/$FILE/4317269.pdf

Sounds like a problem with one of the infinite switches.
Either 5 to 2 or L1 to P is shorted depending on which infinite switch (contacts welded together).

You could remove power to the unit.
Remove the wire to one side of the switch to measure the contacts.
The one that is 0 ohms will be the bad switch.

Could also be a wire has shorted somewhere in the unit

The red light is on constantly--the one that means it is still hot somewhere on the cooktop. I don't know what part to replace to get that to function correctly. Please help. Lesley at Leswhchoc@yahoo.com
