Yes the ignitor when it gets hot enough opens the valve. If it's not glowing hot then that's probably your problem.

I have the above mentioned gas dryer and it does not heat.

I removed the panels to see if the ignitor or valve is not working.

With the gas valve on and off, there was no indication from the ignitor that it was attempting to light the flame. Should the ignitor work even with out the presence of gas?
