Since the time I made my first post on this thread I have written a page and made a video on how to replace the door gasket on GE front load washers.

Just finished this job, so maybe this will help.
1. Remove 3 screws holding trim piece to back of control panel. Remove 3 screws from rear lip of top. Slide top and trim piece back about 3/4 inch. Remove trim piece, then the top.
2. Remove control panel by removing the four screws on the back and one inside the soap dispenser. There is also a clip on the inside right-hand corner of the case holding the control panel on - release by reaching over the top and pressing outwards.
3. Remove the lower panel - 3 screws on lower edge.
4. Open the door and remove the wire clamp that holds the boot on in the front. Lift the boot out of the groove and stuff back inside the front panel. Remove the three screws holding the door latch and switch. [On reassembly, reach behind the boot to position the latch assembly and secure. Then install the boot onto the lip in the panel, then the wire spring clamp.]
5. Remove the front panel with door by removing the four screws, one on each corner. Pull the lower edge out slightly to clear the lower buttons then lift to clear the top clips.
6.At the top of the boot, remove the boot from around the large and small hoses. [On reassembly, I found it easiest to remove the fitting from the end of the small hose. Reinstall it after the boot is in the proper position with the arrow towards you.]
7. Remove the lower weight, then remove the screw clamp holding the boot. The boot will then pull off.
8. Reassemble with new boot. I recommend getting the boot roughly in place, putting the screw clamp behind the large hose, fit the large hose into the boot, then start at the top and fit the boot into the groove. When in the groove all around, check that it's not being pulled by the large hose and that the small hose is in proximity to the hole in the boot. Reposition as needed before installing the screw clamp.

  • Remove the top by removing the three screws on the back.
  • Remove the control panel by removing the three screws on the top and one behind the soap dispenser. There is also a clip on the inside right-hand corner of the case holding the control panel on you must press by reaching over the top to the inside.
  • Remove the bottom panel.
  • Open the door and remove the door latch by removing the three screws (don’t have to disconnect wires).
  • Using a screwdriver remove the wire clamp that holds the boot on in the front. This clamp is in the grove on the front of the boot.
  • Remove the front (door and all) by removing the four screws (one on each corner).
  • At the top of the boot there should be two hoses, slip the boot out from around the hoses.
  • Loosen the screw clamp that holds the boot on at the back (I find this easier if you remove the bottom balance weight).
  • Once the clamp is loose the boot should pull off.
  • Then resemble with new boot.
