On most old style Whirlpool/Roper washers, the lid switch is a common problem. I make most of my side money that way, the lid switch is "sandwiched" together and glued, and a few good lid slams breaks it apart.
If it won't go into spin, and it is Whirlpool/Roper/Kenmore, always check the lid switch first. Most of the times you can feel under the right side where the lid switch is and tell if it is the problem or not.

Yes, usually the same timer contacts are used for all the spin cycles. Pull the timer cover and inspect for burnt contacts.

Does the other modes user the timer (regular wash mode)?

If motor fails to run in spin, seems like either a bad timer, or lid switch. If the lid switch clicks when you close the lid, suspect a bad timer.

 Washer will not go into spin mode. The coupling checks ok, and the clutch checks out ok also. The next step appears to be is to checkout the Lid Switch. Would this be the recommendation of the forum also?
