I have the same problem with mine, the release lever gets frosted over. It is frozen solid now that I have a leak somewhere in the water dispenser. You might try removing all the ice in the bucket and melting the ice around the lever with a a heat gun or hair dryer on the low setting.

Have a whirlpool model WRX735SDHZ03 refrigerator. The release button on the ice bin is half stuck and I can't remove the ice bin. (Have tried, with moderate force to pull it up and out, but it won't come out. Afraid if I use to much force, I will break something) It still dispenses some ice, but it is laboring. So I have stopped using the bin to get ice.

Can someone tell me how I can remove the bin. I am hoping that I won't have to turn the refrigerator off to melt the ice, which is one suggestion I have seen with respect to similar bins. If I have to do it, I will bite the bullet.
