The water valve on the back of the refreigerator. disconnect the waterline going up the back of the frig. leave the electrials plugged up. see if any water comes out of the valve.
Try that first and post your results.

Nat Nat, thanks for the tip. Could you please describe in a little more detail how to do this test, as I am not that knowledgeable about icemakers. Do you mean to take the hose off the valve from the rear supply line, or is there a hose on the valve outlet inside the freezer compartment? Also, how does one advance the icemaker? Thanks, Joe

The ice maker leaks water into the ice tray, and when the water freezes, it forms chunks of ice in the tray. Also, the arms that eject the ice from the mold freeze up and fail to operate. Also some of the cubes come out hollow. Suspect a faulty inlet valve, but want to be sure before replacing the valve.
