Sounds like you have a "secondary pilot" system.
The spark module clicks and lights the pilot, The pilot thermo couple heats and activates the gas valve, The thermostat controls the whole sytem.
My best educated guess at this point would be :
You have a bad thermocouple and bake burner valve.
When you open the oven door, you allow more air into the oven, and get a better fuel air mixture, and the flame and operation seem to work correctly.
We really need a model number to assist you further and better.

Now, when we turn on the oven, the pilot light ignites, and after a few minutes the oven lights, but as soon as we close the oven door, you can hear the gas dying down and it shuts off, until you open the oven door and it lights back up like a champ. What's going on ... I need a hero, how can I fix this in time for Thanksgiving, or is all hope lost? MS Dredd, I would be more secure in assisting you, if I had a proper Model Number.
