I was pressed for time when I answered. It is very common for a solder joint to get loose on this control board. This will cause the problem you describe. Remove the board and look on the backside of it for a loose joint. If you are not comfortable soldering it replace it. Hope this helps!! After seeing the model number and rereading your post I am almost sure the problem is a loose solder joint on the power module (#1473 on your parts breakdown). If this is the case you can repair the solder joint and the microwave will be repaired. Hope this helps!

For a microwave that old there is a good chance parts are discontinued but on some of those older microwaves the start switch was just a common micro-switch. We need a model number to know any of this for sure. Range Repair Guide

I have a 25 year old Hotpoint microwave. It has worked great all these years until now. The start button has quit working. It turns the timer on but not the light or the microwaves. Everything else works like new. Can the start button be replaced or repaired?
