Default Brand new oven - problem with door
Model Number: Frigidaire PLGF659EC   Brand: Frigidaire   Age: Less than 1 year

Just bought a brand new Frigidaire range, but one of the oven door hinges is off the track. Dealer offered that I keep the range and have it repaired myself for a large discount on the purchase price, but would not be under warranty. Is this a big job to fix? If the hinge assembly is actually broken, how much would a new part cost? Also, once this happens will it have a tendency to keep coming off the track? Please answer asap as I have to make a decision either way (to return and exchange, or to keep & fix) Thanx.

What do you mean "off the track"? Can you post a photo here (use attachment link)?

Warranty is provided by the manufacturer. Why would the dealer take a cut in price at his own expense if he's not responsible for warranty? Sounds strange. What is he selling you?

Spoke to the Frigidaire co. They said it was probably caused by incorrect installation and not repairable under the warranty. Recommended I call back people who installed it to fix it.

Don't have picture to describe it, but the metal hinge attached to door goes on to a groove on a "wheel" inside each side of the oven cabinet. The hinge on the right is not aligned in the groove, but is skipped over to the side of it. Makes a loud noise each time it's opened or closed.

As for the dealer, I think they were basically offering it to me as a "floor sample" which is what they would sell it as if I would return it.

Makes sense.

It's hard to say whether you can re-align it or if you need to replace a part. New hinge is $12.77, pretty cheap. To replace the hinge you'll need to remove the side panel of the oven. The hinge is attached to the oven, while the door simply rests on the hinge. If the discount is good enough, it might be worth your time...

- Right side hinge for your model
