Default Thermador:How to replace oven door cable/spring
Model Number: MCB265   Brand: Thermador   Age: More than 10 years

" I have a Thermador Micro-Convection Built In model# MCB265; circa 1989

The other evening my wife was opening the oven and heard a noise, and the oven door felt heavy.
I looked around and noticed the door hinge cable was broken on the left side. I pulled out about a 5" piece of the cable with the rivet head
It apparently goes under a pulley, but I can't see where it attaches to the spring.

Question, how and what needs to be removed to access the area where a new hinge cable can be reattached? Does the unit have to be pulled out from the cabinet? Or can you gain access to the area without pulling the wall oven out?

I see on an appliance parts website that the hinge cables are available. I also noticed that the springs are available too. Might be a good idea to replace both cables and put in new springs.

Other than that the Thermador has been trouble free for us, except I had a problem a few years ago when the tiny preheating lamp failed to come on, preventing the heating elements to work. I did some research and found out that the air switch was not activating. That was due to the outside vent flap door only opening part way. I replaced the outside vent hood and the air switch worked OK!

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. I did take some digital photos if that would help anyone.
