Thumbs down Oven Element broken, still heating
Model Number: JBP35BB1AD   Brand: GE   Age: 5 - 10 years

Stove is GE Spectra series
Have a unique problem. Oven bake element broken in half. All oven controls to off position. Auto bake to off position. Element still glowing red heating oven to 450 deg. No visual light indication any burner or oven element on. Only way to shut oven element off is shut main power or disconnect wiring to element.
Is this a major safety problem with GE Ovens? Is there a major defect with GE oven control panel ? What is the problem or is this normal when an oven element breaks ???

It can happen, the element is broke and probably shorted to ground, replace the element and you'll probably be fine. This can happen to any brand, not just Ge, and no major control panel defect.

An oven element breaking could be caused by something falling on it while baking and it cooks into the element at one spot.
This causes the stress on that one spot and can make it break.
I have seen it often with young elements. Make sure to clean it if something falls on it.

Here is the part number for your element WB44T10011
