Default Gas oven slow to lite
Model Number: SF310PEYN0   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: More than 10 years

My propane oven is slow to lite. I put a meter on the igniter and got 3.5 amps,
within the 3.2-3.6 range. Ok, while making this test the burner came on but the
flame was weak then there was a click from the bottom of the oven and the flame became full. I turned it off then on again and had to wait another 30 sec.
or so but it lit to a full flame. Oh yeah theres a slight whistling sound just as the burner comes on. So maybe a bad oven safety valve? How do you check it?

I'm having a similar problem with my amana stet he temp and the ignighter will energize but the valve wont open for several minutes I replaced the valve with no change and I was wondering if it's the ballast there is a ballast in the lower part of the oven if that is the power for the valve it may not be giving it the proper power to open the valve??

Hi Rayman

Did you have such problems with the top burners?
If your answer is "yes" then the problem is a bad pressure regulator.
If "no" then most likely the problem is a bad gas safety valve (#10 on the oven burner parts break down diagram).

- The part number for the new gas safety valve AP3119546

- Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool range Model SF310PEYN0

Good luck.
Gene.
