Our stove stopped working yesterday. Upon pulling it out and taking off the back panel we discovered that the wire to the far right on the power cord had melted right off of the connection. We purchased a new power cord and put it on. However when we use the stove top or ovens it getts extremely hot and melted the bracket that holds the wires to the baack of the stove. I tried running the diagnostic testing and no codes came up?? Anyone know what could be causing this issue? We though maybe the coils in the ovens were going but it gets just as hot when using the stove top.

Perhaps you should have also replaced the terminal strip.
Also check any other connections to this terminal.
If anything is discolored or pitted or corroded it should be replaced. Any wire that has overheated should be cut back to where you get nice clean copper wire and then a new high current connector put on it or connect it directly to the terminal strip.
I also recommend a light coating of a connection compound (ox-guard or similar) This stuff was originally designed to prevent aluminum wire oxidation but is not use on most connections, at least in my neck of the woods. Only use a light coating as it does conduct and you do not want to cause a short.
A poor connection is a resistance as current passes through it heat is created. This further pits/corrodes the connection which produces a higher resistance and this produces more heat and so on and so on till the connection fails. |
