All of the control knobs and switches on my Frigidaire Gallery electric range are acting strange. The oven light comes on when you turn on one of the burners, the warmer plate comes on when you flip the switch to adjust the size of the heating element, and so on. Basically all of the switches and knobs don't do what they are supposed to do. There is still power to everything. I am thinking that the control panel needs to be replaced, but I'm not sure what parts I might need.
Please help, Eric

Here are your parts Replacement parts for FRIGIDAIRE FEF389WFCJ Frg(v3) / Electric Range | AppliancePartsPros.comHere is the wiring diagram http://manuals.frigidaire.com/prodinfo_pdf/Springfield/316002638.pdfSounds more like a power input problem or a wire in the unit has shorted to another wire. The control panel should have ne effect on the surface elements. First try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times. Sometimes you can loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker and it could do all sorts of weird things If this does nothing. Measure the voltage at the plug L1 to L2 should be 240 volts L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral, both should be 120 volts. If OK Unplug the unit and check the wires at the unit's terminal strip to ensure they are properly connected and none of them have burned off If OK Plug the unit in and check the voltage at the terminal strip. This is just in case you have a bad line cord. Be careful 240 volts is lethal. |

Thank you for the help denman...
So, on the back of the range at the terminal block, the black wires (BK-4 and BK-5) are completely toasted and burnt off on the stove side of the connection. Is it safe to replace the terminal block, cut the burnt wires back, put new connectors on the wires, and get a new power cord? The power cord is charred but not burnt through. Why did this happen and should I be concerned with it being a fire hazard?

Is it safe to replace the terminal block, cut the burnt wires back, put new connectors on the wires, and get a new power cord? Yes it should be OK. I would carefully check over the stoves wiring and elements just to be as sure as possible that something in the stove did not cause the problem. Also for any signs of overheating in other areas. Cut back the wires till you get to nice clean copper, use high current connectors and take extra care with your crimps. I would also give the connections a light coating of connection compound (Ox-guard is one one). The stuff was originally designed for aluminum wiring but is now being used on many other connection types. Just a very light coating as it does conduct and you do not want it shorting out terminals. The power cord is charred but not burnt through. Probably best to replace it unless you can cut it back to nice clean wires.

If there is a poor or loose connection, this is a resistance. And current passes through it heat is created and it pits/corrodes the connection making it worse so generating more heat. And so on and so on till the connection fails. |

Thanks again.
I just ordered the new terminal block and power cord (from APP of course). I did take the back panel off the stove and checked all of the other connections that could be seen...they all appear to be good with no signs of shorting or charring.
Again, I really appreciate the help and will certainly recommend the site to anyone in need of some good appliance advice.
