I have a Jenn-Air radiant cooktop with a downdraft blower. I'm planning on move it to a new kitchen and want to remove the downdraft blower as the new location has a range hood. I'd planned to cover the ductwork cavity on the underside of the cooktop with a piece of flat stock sheet metal. Is this going to present any sort of hazard?

Also, the new install will be in a laminate countertop. Jenn-Airs instruction manual doesnt indicate that I need any sort of heat protection (e.g. nylon spacers / metal reflective tape). Would it hurt to put aluminum reflective tape on the exposed faces of the countertop?
