oven not working

Model Number: tfg334bcwg Brand: Tappan Age: More than 10 years

Oven doesn't light igniter glows red ,I tapped on gas valve and it lit but I can't keep doing this .What is the way to check the igniter to see if it is bad ?I have been told if the igniter glows red and not bright yellow or white it is bad and this will not let the gas valve open .Please help wife not happy
