How do I get behind the front piece (grille?) of a GE range hood to replace the light switch.
There are four 6-button switches on it, which protrude out through square holes in the front piece. Does it pry off like a dryer top? Or is it secure from behind.
This hood is pretty old

My GE JV6401 venthood ( 50 - 60 years old? ) has a facia that houses the controls for the four ( 4 ) eyes on the range ( cooktop ) plus the fan switch and the light switch.

Today, I discovered the secret to remove the facia as follows...

1. Remove the two ( 2 ) wire mesh filters from under the hood
2. Look through the opening back toward the facia
3. On each side, you will see two ( 2 ) screws with fender washers about 1 inch in diameter
4. Remove all four ( 4 ) screws
5. You will now be able to release the facia from the front of the hood
6. Rotate the top of the facia out from the hood, releasing the tabs that mate with slots in the hood
7. As you rotate the facia outward, you will see two ( 2 ) hangers at the bottom
8. These hangers allow you to hang the facia from the front of the hood with all switches and controls exposed for repair

Really, after you remove the filters and the screws, it's a walk in the park!
