Default Lamp in Backsplash Out
Model Number: TGO356BFDB   Brand: Tappan   Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi,

The light in the backsplash panel of my Mother-in-laws Tappan range went out a few weeks back. I got in there and found the fluorescent bulb, which I replaced after an extensive search and $32 later.

When I replaced it, still no light! After talking to her about it, she now tells me she heard a "pop" and the light went out. With this in mind I'm looking at the starter (Condenser), which has the number 9740 ID'ed on it.

Am I right in thinking this could be the problem? The other oven light works OK, as does all range functions.

Could it be anything else?

Lastly, I was trying to remove the condenser so I could take it to the parts store, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to unplug it. Is it plugged in, or do I have to unscrew the whole assembly?

The starter is a part of the receptacle and would recommend to replace it together with the ballast.

- The part number for the receptacle-starter is AP2142963

- The part number for the ballast is AP2125519

This model has a very visible starter away from the receptical.

This is mounted on the light frame: AP2132626

It is not shown in the parts diagram on hte web site.

I pulled of range apart yesterday, as we have the same one but older, and this part is not there.

Very confused.

Because I can not see the unit, my recommendations are based on the break down diagrams. Also, two ranges can look very similar but design and parts could be different.

Thanks again. You are correct it is not shown in the break down diagram (at least the one on this web site).

As I was saying I think she is going to have to live without the light.... the cost of fixing this, even myself, is getting a little silly.

I appreciate your responses and this web site in general.... It is a great tool.
