Default Oven door light switch
Brand: Tappan   Age: More than 10 years

I just receive switch part #AP3851660. I removed existing 51 year old switch with "bakelite" plunger broken off. The switches looked almsot exactly alike. 2 "Blade" connectors. The switch is parelled with a toggle switch on the control panel. Simple in-line switch circuit diagram. Except - when I powered up - The light comes on when I shut the door and goes off when I open it ??? Is this correct part or am I missing something about a simple in-line switch replacement??

What is the model number of the oven? How did you get this part number?

Gene.

It is a 1957 Tappan double wall oven. ALL stainless steel. Model #EOKLVR-31 S/N H 44963.
The circuit diagram has single line from power to a wire nut with 2 wires out - one to door switch and one to toggle switch on panel - then wire nut again with single wire to ground.
No sure how I found it but I was in the Stove/Oven category, but it looks exactly like one I took out. I printed web page and it doesn't say there what the switch is for - possible problem. Thanks for your prompt response

Check the old switch for continuity (using a pin to push the plunger) to find out if it's normally open or normally closed. Do the same test with the new switch and compare.

Post the results.

Gene.

Oven light is on when door is shut so the switch must be normally open and closes when door pushes it in. I verified at appliance store and bought his that worked correctly. Why does the description on web site not define the switch operation??
