Model Number: GY396LXPS01 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 1 - 5 years
The control buttons for the oven controls will not work. The clock is on and timing. I turned the power off to the Range and now I have a PF power failure that I can not reset. Is the control board bad or maybe the push button panel?

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL GY396LXPS01 30" Slide - in Electric Oven Self Clean | AppliancePartsPros.com Here is the tech sheet http://www.servicematters.com/docs/w...%209761388.pdf And a manual https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/3cd0f44c2da9595785256a8c0063802f/$FILE/4322525.pdf This is going to be a pain as I do not have a wiring diagram for the switch pin-outs for the keypad so it is difficult to check and your problem could be either the control board or the keypad (control panel) Is the control board bad or maybe the push button panel? Cannot say. So it becomes a bit of a crap shoot. Try getting into diagnostics. Try turning the power off for half an hour or so. Try the following cleaning procedure. Connector Cleaning / Checking Unplug the unit Open it up Remove the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board at the control board. Clean the edge connector. If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive. Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here. Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates. Reconnect everything and give it a try. Perhaps someone else will jump in with a diagnosis procedure or info on which is most likely.

1. Turned the breaker off for 2 hrs - buttons still do not work 2. Pulled & cleaned ribbon - same result 3. Pulled all connections & reconnected -same result 4. Pulled board & checked for cold solder joint - none found My guess is a main board failure so my next move is to study the schematic and test with my multimeter (fluke 89) and then manually jumber the relays to bypass touchpad and see if that will enable control If it will enable control I will know i have a bad touch pad if not it will be a bad control board Any suggestions from the pro's? |

gman,
Most likely the problem is a bad touch pad (aka a control panel). There is a very small chance for the control board to be bad. Whirlpool does not provide any instructions on how to test the touch pad instrumentally. The way you are going to test the control board looks to me too risky and you can end up replacing both parts. If you need the correct part number(s), post the complete model number of the unit. Gene.

I have the same model (GY396LXPS01) Whirlpool and problem as Timmy. Would love to know if the cause of this problem can be nailed down, i.e. which part to buy.
