Question Thermostat / switcher not working
Model Number: AHY3200   Brand: Admiral   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

(new member here, go easy) Diplomat/Hygena AHY 3200 oven not working My in-laws' above oven packed up today. Took it out and apart. Not a complete noob on electrical stuff but only got as far as narrowing it down to the switcher using a DVM. On the end of the switcher there is a little orange box where three leads are connected; two insulated, one completely bare. The insulated wires (easily disconnected if needed) are wired back into the switcher. One of these wires is then immediately spliced to the oven-on light. The bare wire goes all the way back into the oven. This is obviously the actual thermostat. I proved that either the box or the thermostat is not working by 'shorting out' the insulated wires' prongs temporarily and sure enough the oven sprang into life including the indicator light on the front. QED. However, I could not register any voltage at all on the bare wire which leads me to the big question.... How is this bare wire into the box supposed to make that box switch the two other poles? Any help greatly appreciated, Iwar

Please re-check your model number, get it from
the model and serial tag on the range itself.
Also we a more general description of the problem
you are having with the oven. Is the oven not heating
at all? Or is it getting too hot?

Thanks

Yep, did put the wrong brand down. It's a Diplomet/Hygena AHY3200 The oven does not heat at all unless I short out the prongs on what I presume is a relay-switch. Either that relay is not engaging anymore, or the thermostat is not supplying a signal to engage. Not sure. But why a bare wire?

Ah, did put the wrong model down: It is an Diplomat/Hygena AHY3200 The oven does not heat at all unless I short out the prongs on top of - what I have come to believe is - the relay switch. Either that relay is broken, or the thermostat is not causing it to engage.

Unhappy

No one here with any clues on how to figure out how to test the relay? I only wish to find out how the thermostat energises the relay. Is it voltage / impedance / other? I need to find out whether I should buy a new switcher / thermostat / new oven.

I would like to help you but I have been unsuccessful
in locating any information on this unit. If I had the
the technical information on it I might be able to help you.

Thanks for all your troubles sofar, Glen. I didn't realise that anyone would have to learn the specifics of any model and that the brunt of all ovens work in pretty much the same way. I can imagine that the top end models probably have some very niftier technology to basically get the same functionality, but this oven is very basic; fan assisted, so probably a round thermostat around the fan with a bare metal wire going all the way to a very simple looking relay that sits behind the front fascia.

There may be a tech sheet/ schematic folded up
and tucked away somewhere (maybe behind the console).
If there is one, and you were to scan it, then post it here.
It would at least give us something to go on.

I had that thing apart to fault find the electrical part all the way to the relay behind the front fascia. If there had been a tech sheet I would have seen it. Time to call in a local repair man. In-laws have already been without oven since last Sunday; cannot let them go on much longer like this. Thanks for your help so far anyway.
