Upper oven does not turn on. Appliance guy #1 said I need a clock. Replaced clock myself, worked while friend was here, to try it out, now nothing. A sound is heard, like it's trying to turn on.

Appliance guy #2 said I needed new thermostat, for which he would have to remove the whole double oven, also said I need new board, as well as new switch membrane (since it's hard to press and getting worse). He said I coud put off the switch membrane.

Seems like they wanat me to replace everything.

What should I replace? Should I have them do it? They charge $175/hour but have preset prices that include that rate. Already paid 79 to diagnose which would be subtracted from final charges.

What is shown on the display when you try to run the upper oven?

Do both Bake and Broil not work?

The clock shows the time. None of the heating elements work - no broiling, baking, convection baking etc. The fan works and so does the light.

I can hear a hum, like it's trying to turn on, but nothing does turn on to heat. At one point, there was either an F7 or F5 code, can't remember which one.

The lower oven works fine. It was getting harder to press the functions.for the upper oven. I used almost exclusively, the upper oven both because it was the convection oven and because it was at eye level.

What do you think is wrong? What should I do to fix it?

thanks for your help!

Anita

Anita,

The first thing I would do is check for continuity the hi-limit thermostat (#4 on the diagram). If it's open, then no one of the heating elements would get the power. If there is nothing wrong, the problem is a bad relay board (#11 on the diagram).

I can agree with the appliance guy #2 about new membrane switch.
