Default Thermador Convection oven Microwave dead
Model Number: CMT-231   Brand: Thermador   Age: More than 10 years

I have a thermador Convection wall oven with built in microwave it is a CMT-231 problem is yesterday the microwave stopped working on it. The knobs for the microwave are lighting up and when i lock the latch the timer starts running like it is suppose to. But am not getting the fan or microwave going on. Oven Works fine. Had tech come today and without even opening up the unit he says he is 100% the magnatron is the bad. Then he said that parts are hard to get for this unit and then he said to fix it he was going to charge me $1000. I called around a few other places and they gave me prices in the same family. Should it cost this much. I looked on the Website here and saw the part is only $205 how hard is this to replace myself? Is a magnatron a diy thing? Is it accessable on this unit. I see they give instructions with it so what should i do? If i found a reasonable price probably no more then $500 i would let them fix it.

Here is the link to the part

I had this thing for 20 years and this is my first problem with it since i had it so i have been pretty lucky and i know new ones are big money so should i invest money in this. Are they solid units?

I do not think your microwave has been diagnosed properly.

I need some more information.

What happened to the microwave indicator light after you pushed the "start" button? Is it "on" or "off"?

Did you hear any noises besides the timer at this time?

More information you can provide - more chance for better advise.

Gene.

What about the microwave indicator light on the control panel? Is it on or off?
