my new oven igniter does not glow. is this caused by a bad gas safety valve?? the igniter is powered up and power goes on and off when the oven themostat is operated but no glow. i jumpered power over to gas safety valve to trouble shoot for bad igniter, before i ordered new igniter so did i cause safety valve failure?

You absolutely fried the safety valve if you put 120 volts to it.
120 volts is applied to the ignitor. The ignitor has resistance through it, glows and heats up, then with this resistance sends about 3.2 volts to the safety valve to open it. |

thank you for the response! so the safety valve is fried and now it breaks the circuit so the flat igniter will not glow, even though it has 120 volts supplied to it, the safety valve continues the circuit back to neutral.
