Default Oven Door Does Not Close All the Way
Model Number: WGF325BADB   Brand: White-Westinghouse   Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a White-Westinghouse gas range with an oven door that does not stay closed all of the way. It's almost as if something had fallen in the crack between the door and the oven that keeps it open just a half-inch or so; but I checked and that is not the case. It kind of feels like there might be a hinge or spring slightly off, but I'm not sure and have very little experience in tinkering with my range. Does anyone know what the problem might be, and if so, if it's easily fixed?

Thank you so very much for any and all help!
JAS

One or both of the hinges could be bad.
There is a way you can check this.
First put the door in the broil position and then lift
and remove the oven door.
Then carefully with a pair of pliers grab the hinge
and move it forward towards the range body.
In most ranges the hinge should actually be able to
rest up against the body (or frame) of the range itself.
Do this with both hinges and see if they rest up against
the range. If one of them doesn’t then it will need replaced.

Take care if you do this because there is a
good deal of spring tension in these hinges. Make sure
you use something to grab on to them such as a pair of pliers.

Here are what they look like.

Thank you for the help! I tested the hinge per your recommendation and it was indeed the problem. It was a pain but I managed to replace it today.

Thank you!
