Model Number: GHW920LW Brand: Whirlpool Age: 1 - 5 years
I found little pieces of plastic in my clothes in the washer and found the lip on the plastic "outer tub" that is next to the stainless clothes tub was eaten up and coming apart. I replaced the plastic "outer tub" section only to have it do it again in 2 loads of washing. I ran it empty the first time to check it out after repair and it did fine. I left and came home and my wife had done 2 loads and the plastic lip is all to pieces. I took off the back of the washer and all seems tight with no "slack". Can't figure out why it is eating up the "outer tub". at $100 bucks each, I need some help!!!!!

My 10 year old washer did the same thing today. I found the part at a discount site for $68. I will get a repair estimate from a local tech care. The only other thing to break was the pump and I replaced it for $150. Will you try another fix or junk it? What else could go wrong if the outer tub broke?

there was a reason why the first one was damaged. 1. maybe bad bearing 2. damage caused by bad suspension spring 3. bad shock possibly 4. loose and damaged stainless basket Look at all the inexpensive parts first for the problem. If its the bearing you might have the model that the bearing can be replaced or the model that you would have to buy the rear outer tub that only comes with the bearing wich is a $400 to $500 dollar part

I fixed the problem by buying the latest Duet washer and dryer a year ago in Jan. Wow! What a difference! Smooth and very quiet.
I sold the old dryer and gave away the washer to the same person. A buddy of mine at Whirlpool gave me the parts to fix the washer and I in turn gave them to the new owner who was young and needed a break. |
