Our Whirlpool dbl-oven (RBD275PDB4) upper oven starting acting up ... it began by refusing to turn off (lower element, upper oven). I killed the power, removed that element and reapplied power to allow lower oven use--this works fine (all features of lower oven). In subsequent testing (w/upper element reinstalled) the oven went (by itself, no control panels buttons touched) into "cln" mode, locking the door. To me this feels like a failed sensor, contact or relay ... but I cannot determine that from just the parts list ... wish I had a schematic -- or advice. Hoping it isn't the $600 control panel itself ...?

Sounds like the problem is a bad control board. Unfortunately this part has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available. You can talk to people from PCBR.BIZ. Might be they can help you with the old part repair. The part number of the control board is 4448876.

I have a whirlpool oven with a very similar issue, supposedly. I got this oven from a family member, who claimed when using it to broil, it would lock up, and turn itself into cleaning mode. The buttons would lock up and you would have to unplug the oven and plug it back in after 30 seconds to get it to reset and unlock. I currently have the oven set up, and am trying to force this error to occur so that I can record the error code to further diagnose it. I don't ever broil anything, but I want to insure I have a safe oven. I have the manual and the tech sheet, so I believe it will be an F3 error. Also, I found some type of ceramic honeycomb filter looking thing in the oven, just laying there. I can't seem to see where it would have come from except for a similarly sized hole that is just a tad too small. Any idea on that as well would be great.

Any insight on this would be great, I know this is a very old post.

If nothing wrong did not happened yet, then just use the oven. Sooner or later it will show up. I don't think there are any safety issues.


Can you post a picture of this honeycomb?


The complete model number of the oven may help for any further troubleshooting.

Thanks for the quick response, yes, here are a couple images of the object. If you can tell, it does appear burnt, as if it has in fact been in the oven, while being used, whether it belonged there or not.

Unfortunately, the only number on the back of the oven, and the tech sheet is "8053302 rev. b". It does say "Super Capacity 465" on the front of the oven though.

I have no clue what is it. The name plate with the model number should be on the oven door frame or behind the bottom drawer.

No, range, broil, or bake, tried all, works fine. I did read on the tech sheet that having it unpluged for a while (more than 30 seconds) could in fact remedy on F3 code, if that's actually what it is, which it may be, judging what I've been told and the description. The oven has been unplugged in my garage for about two months before I finally got it in the house, but I wanted to be safe.

Your oven has very good protection, so you are probably safe in any way.

The "F3" error code means that the control senses open (or closed) oven temperature sensor. It has nothing to do with the problem you described earlier about self clean mode. Use it but keep it under control.
