Model Number: JT965B0F7BB Brand: GE Age: 1 - 5 years
Oven will not heat up all the way. It starts at 100 and then moves up maybe 10-15 degrees.
Both convection and normal bake won't work. Broil works just fine. I assume the breaker is fine, and upper heating element is ok. I looked at the lower element and it seems fine. It is covered by the bottom tray in the oven. I suspect the temp sensor is bad. What can I check before I call for a very $$ home service. I have a good meter and enough common sense not to get zapped. I hate getting zapped anyway.... Ads By Google Related Models |

The cause of the problem can be a bad heating element, broken wires or a bad oven control board.
Remove the bake element and check it for continuity and/or broken wires. If it's good, check for 240 VAC to the Bake element. Post the results. Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for General Electric JT965BF7BB Electric range | AppliancePartsPros.com Gene.

Did some easier testing. Set the temp for 475 bake. Viola - oven heats right up. I'm pretty sure both top and bottom elements were hot, surely the bottom one was on. I let the oven heat to over 400. Heating speed seemed normal.
Change the temp to 300 and no heat. Now this is getting stranger. |

I know this thread is old, but I am experiencing the same problem. I'm going to go try settng it up to 400 or 450 and seeing what happens. The other night I had to finish my dinner by putting it on low broil LOL.
My oven was put in when we built our house ... 1999. GE Profile appliances have been nothign but trouble. Stove, microwave and refrigerator have all gone out at least once. GEtting ready to replace ALL. Home repair is ridiculously expensive. |

You have to have a simple multimeter to perform some tests. Gene.

My husband took a look in the oven and discovered that the bottom coil was completely broken. No wonder it didn't heat. Then he tried to pull out the coil thinking he would order and install a new one and a HUGE spark (seemed like an explosion!!).... he didn't cut the power. After cutting the power he pulled the coil out, but only 1 wire showed and he's digging in the insulation at the back trying to find the other side. He unscrewed the unit to pull it out but he's now mad because I am not strong enough to help him pull the whole oven out and lift to the floor to see what's in the back. Guess we're getting a new oven.

Sorry to hear it. Good luck with a new oven.

YAAAY ... bought a new oven today. Went with a Kenmore oven/micro combo. While I was at it, bought a matching Kenmore Elite 4-door refrigerator. We needed that too (hadn't had water or ice for over 3 years because the line constantly leaked, even after repairs and we finally just disconnected it.

Sorry for the delay.
What is the complete model number of the unit? Gene.
