Default control panel inop

I have a maytag gemini electric double oven with a glass cooktop. The control panel will not let me choose any function. The clock display works but I cannot set it or choose any cook options. All the buttons are dead except the "3". The cooktop works just fine. This sounds like the control panel is no good to me. I took the top panel off and can get to the control panel no problem, after I unplugged the range of course. Since the control panel is $235 plus shipping I would like to be as sure as possible that this is the bad component. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks alot
Cliff M. Anderson

Here are the parts
Replacement parts for MAYTAG MER6772BAB Freestanding - Double Oven - Electric | AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is a manual
http://www.servicematters.com/maytag...s/16010107.pdf

You could measure the 12 volt transformer Item 36 in Section 1 to be sure it is putting out 12 volts AC but this would be a long shot as the problems cause since the imer does seem to run somewhat.

In my opinion the odds of it being the control board are up in the very high 90's.

Here is the operators manual

Here is your operators manual, looks like you have a separate button for the control lock.

Default control panel lockout to unlock panel (not to unlock oven doors)

some units have a start button some don't. Ours does not. some are on the number "4" on the control panel keypad. If only the clock works, and nothing else does it is more than likely a locked control panel. The manual is not very clear on how to unlock. Try pressing "0" then the number "4" then pressing "auto set" to unlock. To re lock control panel press "0" then "4" then "auto set" to re lock control panel. I think the control panel lock is only there so kids can not mess with the oven/control panel. Although why would kids be messing with the oven, don't they have an xbox to play with or something??

Default control panel recall maytag freestanding double oven

Also, if that is not the problem, and it is the control panel. Call maytag at least two different times talk to two different people to make sure yours is not included in the control panel recall that they had. Ours was about 6 years old, repairman came out and said it needed a new control panel, which with parts and install was around 600 -800 dollars. Anyway called maytag with regard to warranty coverage. Gave them all info, told me there was no warranty (we did not have extended coverage policy) and that we would have to pay. After googling maytag model niumber etc. over that weekend, discovered there was a recall on the computer control panel board. Called again the following monday, gave them the serial number and model, and asked them to double check for the recall on our unit. After quite sometime on hold, she came back and said that it was indeed recalled, and that maytag would pick up the replacement cost. She said our particular one was recalled, but the serial number was not linked to the recall in their system, she had to do it manually for it to show up as a recall. Also, after installed new, it would be covered for an additional 5 years parts and labor (not the whole oven, just the control panel / computer board that was recalled). Maytag has a tendency of not volunteering recall information unless you press them for it. They did the same thing with a recall TWO times with our refridgerator. Told us twice by a mailed letter, that it might be under a recall for a fire hazard problem they were having with them (evaporating fan motor control relay) starting a fire. Gave them all info serial number date of manufact etc. and they said was not a recall unit, Months went by, and then they did notify us that they made a mistake, and that our unit was under the fire hazard recall. Fridge worked fine, and never had a fire, but the fan motor had burnt out and was replaced two times earlier. Not thrilled with maytag, and will not buy anymore appliances from them. I do love the stove, but dislike the broiler as it takes a good 20 to 25 minutes to preheat before broiler will even operate (ours is gas, i think the electric broiler works right away without the preheat safety process). Next time we will just remodel kitchen and install two full size wall ovens, and keep this one too. Four ovens should suffice for even the biggest of parties. One thing that was a good idea, is the flip up ID tag on the upper left corner. Just reach about a 1/2" down behind the upper left corner, and a metal id tag slides up for you to see all the info you need model number, serial number, etc. This prevents you from have to slide it out of the leg lock tipover prevention brackets on the floor to view the serial numbers etc. if they were on the back of the unit.

Default Similar problem with Kitchen Aid

Hey Cliff,
I can't tell you for sure that it is the control panel, but the service tec that came out to check out my kitchen aid that had a similar problem told me that that is what i needed; the control panel.
Unfortunately, there seem to be none available. I had already bought the $300.00 computer module that sits behind the control panel. I thought that would do it.But , it didn't.
It is interesting that on our oven, the "3" was the only button that worked, also. We could bake at 300 degrees, or 333 degrees. But none of the other program buttons worked.

Someone on this site mentioned that there is a company in Ontario that can check out your control panel and fix it if it needs it. I'm looking for that company right now. That might be an option for you, too.

Larry,
Susanville, Calif.

I had the same problem over Christmas with a house full a people. I punched a button on my electric range and while it appeared to be working, it was not heating. Turned out to be a loose wire in the J-box.
