Model Number: B187SS-B Brand: -other- Age: 5 - 10 years
I have a Baumatic, single oven.
The inner section of the door has come apart from the outer section. There are no screws or obvious places where it was afixed. I therefore believe it was sealed via some sealent / glue. Are you aware of a way to re afix the inner door? Ads By Google Related Models |

Hi,
Yes, you are correct that the glass was probably held in with a sealant / glue, this is a common method of fixing the glass. It is a surprisingly common problem, often the result of standing a heavy pan on the glass while the oven door is open, popping the inner window out. It should be a relatively easy repair - the hardest part is generally finding the right adhesive first time. However you cannot use a normal sealant - you need a high temperature adhesive that remains flexible at high temperatures to allow for the expansion of the glass and metal door. There is a website that offers the correct high temperature oven glue for your needs. Unfortunately it is not generally stocked in the major DIY shops and other adhesives that might appear to suit, or claim they are appropriate for high temperatures are unlikely to provide a lasting repair. You will need to remove the oven door - most ovens are designed to allow the door to be removed in a matter of seconds, for cleaning purposes. If so your instruction manual will explain how to do it - look for a section on cleaning. You should be able to split the door into two sections, so as to access the inner glass properly. Look for a few screws around the perimeter of the door (often by the handle). The front is often held by a couple of screwed brackets at one end, whilst clipped in at the other end. The brackets doing this are themselves glued to the glass and whilst not your specific problem it is not unknown for the adhesive that sticks these to fail and require re-gluing. Rarely, the front fascia can be glued on too, if so, whilst not ideal, some people use a small glass sucker (dent puller) to hold the inner glass from the outside surface, having applied the adhesive. But you will be able to do a better repair, far more easily, if you can take the front fascia off. |

Thanks Edmund,
It is the second section of the door that has come apart from the outer section which is the real issue. I am not able to see that it was screwed in. Therefore, I assume that I should try to glue it back to the outer section of the door using a glass sucker / dent puller? Or just glue straight onto the front / outer door section? Regards Will |

Hi Will,
Yes, though not ideal it sounds as though you will need to use a glass sucker to pull the glass back into place, once adhesive has been applied to the edges. You will need to find a way to hold the glass for a good few hours whilst the adhesive cures. You will need plenty of adhesive doing it that way as it can be a bit hit and miss. It should be possible to cut away any excess adhesive, once cured, using a sharp blade / scraper, as it cures to form a rubber like sealant similar to that which you use around a shower cubicle. |
