Model Number: RF375PXEQ0 Brand: Whirlpool Age: More than 10 years
The bottom element on my oven will not shut off. This is not the first time this has happened. The last time this happened, I cycled the controller (bake, broil, self clean, off) and eventually the bottom element went off and has been working normally. Yesterday, while baking a pie, the oven seemed to get too hot (the pie burned) and once again the bottom element would not turn off. The broiler seems to work normally - the bottom element goes off when the top element is on - the bottom element comes back on when the broiler is turned off. I have tried all cycles, even running the oven through a self clean cycle to see if that would work. The bottom element continues to stay on and eventually an error code displays on the controller (I didn't write the code down!!). One possible cause - just before this happened, our power company had changed our meter to a new style and had turned our power off and on. Could a power surge cause the controller to short out?

If the Bake element and/or its wires are not shorted then the problem most likely is a bad control board. - The control board Part number: AP3119259 Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL RF375PXEQ0 | AppliancePartsPros.com Gene.

I tried the oven again today - it seems okay at first - heats normally for about 20 minutes - then bottom element stays on again burning food in oven. I let it heat up until the error code came on (F3E2) and then tried to get it to shut off. If I switch to"broil" mode then both elements go off. If I try to turn the oven off then the bottom element comes back on - glowing BRIGHT red evenly. At this point, I cannot get the upper element to come on at all. I haven't tried unplugging the oven yet - I will do that now.

I am not sure if this could be related....I had a back burner get a hole in it 1 year ago (Nov 2008) - sparks flew everywhere!! I replaced the burner element but it still did not work. I called a repair man and he replaced the "switch"(his #22 664 3148952 1). Everything seemed to work fine for a few months and then I started having problems with my oven (see my post 5-31-2009). I was able to finally get the bottom element to go off and operate normally until now. I use my oven almost daily and always keep it clean. Thanksgiving is coming and I will NEED to have my oven operating normally!! HELP!

The "F3-E2" error code means "Runout temperature" and it proves a faulty control board unless there is a short somewhere in the Bake element or its wires.
