Default F20 Error Code
Model Number: PLES399ECG   Brand: Frigidaire   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

The plastic threaded collar from one of the dual element controllers broke and I replaced it (AP3873639 (316441801) - Control dual element). I replaced the connections in the exact locations of the original part and made certain that all connections were seated. After turning the breaker back on the burners all work fine. When I turn the oven on, however, I get an F20 error code and the oven and warmer will not function. I understand this is an EOC communications error but all of the connections appear to be well seated.

Any other ideas about what I might try next? I have tried flipping the circuit breaker several times without success.

I would try the following. Often ribbon cable cnnections can look OK but still be a problem.

Unplug the unit
Open it up
Remove the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board at the control board.
Clean the edge connector.
If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive.
Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here.
Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates.
Reconnect everything and give it a try.

Angry No luck yet

I am afraid I have not had any luck yet.

I have now installed two burner control units and both have the same problem. When I install the original unit with the broken collar the oven works fine with no error.

Out of desperation, I removed the control assembly from the original circuit board and replaced it with the assembly from one of the new circuit boards. Oddly, it will not turn the burner on.

I have noticed that the new circuit boards are a different model that the original. I am beginning to think that there is a compatibility issue with the new circuit boards and the main control unit. I plan to check with Frigidaire next week about this possibility. I will post again if I have any luck and would appreciate hearing from you if you do so as well.

I'm replying under a new user name cause my original failed.

Anyway, I reset the breaker and that seemed to work for a few minutes.
I pressed bake and everything was working and then it went to error code f 20. I too will call Frigidaire and try to talk to a person and re post. thanks for the info

mine does exactly the same after a breaker reset. Was your heating element control the original part or did you replace it?

I know this is kinda old but i ran across this thread last night looking to resolve the same problem . Here's the catch . I'm a service man . lol .. Anyway , yesterday on a service call i ran across this same range with the same problem and remembering from a s/c about a year ago i had purchased the (316441801) dual element switch .. It wasn't in a box but looked the same . so i installed the switch .. and to my surprise f20 popped up as soon as I turned on the oven . This code also appeared when i removed and isolated the wire's ( i.e. no switch at all ) I spent the next 30 minutes checking wiring , so here's the reason this happens . It is a communication error code . One of the Dual elements has a (316441801) and the other has (316441804) switch . The last number is different . I found that one switch acts as a ground and the other as a positive , if you will.and I'm not quite sure as to why its attached to the EOC . So when changing out one of the dual switches look at the sticker on the switch ( hehe which I didn't)as it has the part number on it . Hope this helps and saves someone from buying the EOC as that is most likely not the problem

I did notice the different numbers and I believe we matched them up.What I think happened was when The dual element fell below the panel,a wire must have touched metal and caused the main board to short out.So that's what we replaced and has been working perfectly since.
