Whirlpool range model wfe714hlas. 4 years old this july. warranty recently expired. Recently, when baking, noticed foods overcooking and top element remaining on. Top and bottom elements will heat until temperature reached, then top element remains on. Temp sensor is good. elements are good. control board 300$ vs new range for 800$ any help will be appreciated.

Its probably a stuck broil relay.

Possibilities,

Replace relay. Are you good at soldering? If you can buy a replacement relay you could solder it on.

Disconnect the broil wires and insulate them. Broil no longer works, but you can still bake.

Remove computer, send it off to be repaired. reinstall it when it comes back.

Buy new computer board. $ears says can get them and they are around $212.

We have the same range, and yesterday 8/28/18, my girlfriend was trying to bake a cake. Less than five minutes into the baking process, she said the oven started smoking and the cake was burnt to a crisp. She said a message appeared, DEFAULT and something else, but she didn't pay attention because house was smoky, puppy was freaking and smoke detectors were going off.

Did you repair yours ckgrant31?
